10 Jan Happy 2018!
With the end of 2017, the holiday season and the beginning of 2018, there are a number of emotions one may encounter. For many, 2017 was a year of growth and learning. At times, it may have been uncomfortable but that is all a part of process. We encounter, endure, accept, learn and shift our focus to something beneficial and necessary for our growth. I must admit, it’s tough stuff. But, WE did it! We all made it through difficult times, triumphs, periods of doubt, unforeseen circumstances and lived to talk about it or reflect…whatever you chose. The holiday season was time spent with loved ones and friends, sharing old memories, reflecting on the lessons and creating new memories. Some may have encountered the “Holiday Blues” and felt a sense of loneliness. The thing is…this is a new year and the new year is always exciting. It’s the time for resolutions and new goals but we must be mindful of the Four R’s: Refocus, Restructure, Reduce & Rejuvenate.
Starting off a new year calls for refocusing on previous goals not yet achieved, assessing the progress made and identifying new goals. While refocusing one must shift attention from holiday celebrations, end of year events and vacations to get back to business to meet their obtainable goals. One can restructure goals yet achieved by revisiting the list and prioritizing goals in order of most to least importance. After which, goals can be further labeled by timeframes set to reach specific goals. Goals should be big yet reasonable. It should be known that at any point they can change for more important goals identified. One should not stick with a goal simply because it was written. We are constantly evolving and must learn to refocus and restructure continuously. Restructuring may come after a failure or unforeseen circumstance. We must give ourselves permission to change and accept change as it occurs.
We must reduce the noise in our heads and remain focused on the targeted goals. The noise can be in many forms including but not limited to self-doubt, fear, multiple life roles and responsibilities, stressors (financial & etc.) and discord in relationships. This reduction helps to maintain attention to targeted goals. It should be known that everything cannot be done at the same time. Try to keep things simple. Simplicity helps to increase the success rate while working to achieve goals. It is our duty to release things that no longer serve us. We are preconditioned to believe we must try something until we succeed. Oftentimes, the “thing” that no longer serves us is just that. A “thing” that must be released. It is okay to accept that and move forward to new goals.
Rejuvenation is essential for growth. It helps us to regenerate our minds to enhance our thought process. During rejuvenation one can revive themselves while working to achieve their goals. Think of rejuvenation as self-care. Yes, we are discussing self-care AGAIN. We all know the importance self-care and how often we must engage to maintain the vitality of life. I encourage you to regularly engage in the Four R’s: Refocus, Restructure, Reduce & Rejuvenate with an emphasis on rejuvenation. Let’s face it, we all need to restore what was expended & redistribute our thoughts for proper engagement in our goals.
Peace & Blessings on a Successful 2018!
